Naba barta, Assam: A major job fraud has surfaced in Sivasagar where unemployed youth were allegedly cheated of up to Rs 5 lakh each with the promise of contract jobs in ONGC rigs.
Rituraj Borgohain of Nazira, owner of DBR Group linked to ONGC, has been accused of running the racket. He allegedly collected Rs 80,000 to Rs 5 lakh from over 50 qualified youths across Assam, promising employment in two rigs operated by Kriss Drilling.
Borgohain is reportedly in charge of ONGC’s SKP 135#6 rig at Bhatiapar, which was involved in a recent gas leak incident.
Many victims who paid the money received no jobs and are now turning to police. Written complaints have also been submitted to leaders of various political parties and organizations.
This is not the first allegation against Borgohain. In 2024, Cherish, an OIL contracting firm, filed a case against him at Amguri Police Station. He allegedly took around Rs 35 lakh for supplying BOP equipment but never delivered the materials. He was forced to return part of the money after police intervention.
Sources claim Borgohain earlier secured rig work through alleged ties with senior ONGC officials and is now pushing to get contracts for two more rigs.
Victims are preparing to approach ONGC’s Executive Director in Nazira. The report questions whether ONGC will take action against Borgohain’s firm, DBR Oil and Gas, which has allegedly collected Rs 20–30 lakh while damaging ONGC’s reputation.
