Naba barta Guwahati: B. Borooah College fraternity has expressed deep and utter shock at the sudden demise of
Zubeen Garg in Singapore yesterday. While it is an irreparable loss to the cultural scene of the state, it is particularly painful for all of us as he was an alumnus and a great lover of our college.
While students and teachers paid impromptu tributes on the campus yesterday, the college authority arranged for an official tribute today. Large numbers of students and teachers paid their rich tributes to the beloved singer and composer as his melodies played out in low tones in the background. Many were seen shedding tears as they remembered their idol.
In his message, the principal Dr. Satyendra Nath Barman said: “Zubeen was one of our very own and had a special place in his heart for his Alma Mater B. Borooah College. We are in deep shock. We proudly remember that Zubeen’s musical journey had taken off from our college as he had won Gold in the Gauhati University Youth Festival in western solo by representing us. I would like to add that the Alumni Association of our college had conferred the title SURYAKANTHA on Zubeen Garg in March 2024.”
The solemn programme, marked by heartfelt remembrance and collective grief, was initiated by Dr. Satyabrata Baruah, Secretary of B. Borooah College Teachers’ Unit setting the tone for the dignified homage to the legendary alumnus.
